Prunus × yedoensis 'Awanui' - Yoshino cherry

Common name: Yoshino cherry
Family: Rosaceae (Rose)
Comments: Habit: Erect, vase-shaped and spreading. Different from other flowering cherries in that the horizontal branches may drape softly almost to ground level.Grows to 6m tall x 8m wide.

Flowers: Prolific, large, fragrant, single, soft pink blooms emerge in spring from deep pink buds.
Foliage: Yellow and orange autumn foliage.

History: Selected by Keith Adams at his nursery in Awanui Street, New Plymouth, New Zealand.
