Rhododendron 'Doctor Hermann Sleumer' (Vireya)

Life form: Shrub - evergreen
Comments: Habit: Open bushy shrub to 2m x 2m.

Foliage: Large ovate leaves, densly brown scaled when new. Dark green and slightly rough to the touch as they age.

Flowers: 4-6 per umbel, tubular funnel with wide flared lobes, deep pink with creamy white tube and throat, green in base. Strong carnation scent. Flowers once or twice a year in big flushes.

History: R. konori var phaeopeplum x R. zoelleri. Seed collected in Irian Jaya (Western New Guinea) by Dr Sleumer in 1965 and grown by Tom Lelliott, Australia.
