Comments: Habit: Mounded low spreading shrub to about 75cm tall.

Foliage: Leaves 50 x 25mm, dull green above.

Flowers: Brilliant scarlet red flowers in flat topped umbels, freely produced.

History: R. 'Essex Scarlet' X forrestii ssp. forrestii (Repens Group). Raised by D.G. Hobbie and registered by Le Feber & Co. in 1970.

Cultivation information: Needs cool but open conditions to do well. Hardy and dislikes warm humid conditions. One of the best of the prostrate hybrids, suitable for growing in a container. Available from rhododendron nurseries in New Zealand.
